A little coat knowledge

Coats, explained

A few things worth knowing before your dog’s first visit — so there are no surprises, just a happy groom.

What is a de-shed?

Double-coated breeds (Pomeranians, Retrievers, Border Collies) shed a dense undercoat. A de-shed is a bath, high-velocity blow-out and careful raking to clear that loose coat — it takes real time and care.

Why does matting cost more?

Matting is tight, tangled coat that pulls on the skin. Light matting can be gently brushed out; severe matting can't be brushed safely and needs a careful shave-down for your dog's comfort. Because it takes longer and is delicate, a small surcharge applies — and we always confirm with you first.

Keeping the coat between grooms

A few minutes of brushing a week — especially behind ears, under legs and around the collar — prevents most matting. Book every 6 weeks for curly coats to stay ahead of tangles. We'll remind you.

Why we don't groom by the clock

We price by dog and coat, not by the minute. Some visits are quick because your pup is relaxed; others take longer because we've slowed down for their comfort — a break in the yard, a cuddle, a moment to reset. You're paying for a calm, caring experience done properly.

Do you groom larger dogs?

We specialise in small dogs, 20 kg and under. Larger dogs can't be safely and comfortably handled in the bath solo, so we wouldn't be able to give them the calm, unhurried experience the salon is built on.
